The miracle that happens when you become pregnant and deliver your baby healthy and sound is one that cannot be described. However, it does not take away the fact that even during this sacred and powerful time we are each faced with many challenges, each is unique to us. How we over come this plays a critical role, not just for us as the mom but for the life we bear.
Affirmations are there to help one feel calm and relaxed, they give sense of stillness and tranquillity. Affirmations make it easy to let go and allow the “higher powers” to take over. Especially for mothers that have experienced miscarriages and still births. I remember when I was pregnant with our youngest, I had to be mentally strong, it was in the heart of the pandemic. Lock downs, in the mining industry women were had to work remotely. Our two eldest were basically getting home-schooled. Deep within I was anxious, worried about my wellbeing and that of my unborn baby. My mind would go on a rollercoaster ride of “WHAT IFs”. Somehow, I remember reciting “MY BODY WAS MADE FOR THIS”, “I AM WORTHY”, “I AM CAPABLE” throughout my pregnancy. When Delivery Day came daddy was turned away at the door because he did not have a negative COVID-19 certificate. THEN! I had to be STRONG MENTALLY! Honestly, it was affirmations that kept me going.
To the expecting moms try this relaxation exercise I got from Kenya the doula.
Relaxation exercise: Mom should get into a comfortable position, either seated or in a side-lie position with a pillow between her legs. Relax and close your eyes, slow your breathing into a soft rhythm and release the worries of the day.
As your partner gently massages your arms, back and legs, or gives you light strokes through your hair and across your face, they may read through the affirmations below in a loving, calm voice. The room should be still and quiet, candles may be lit to help with ambiance and soothing aromatic smells. Mom can also recite these to herself during meditation or when courage and fortitude are needed.

I am a warrior woman! I will meet labor wholeheartedly. May I know all the strength of my powerful body, may my thoughts remain clear and focused, and may my spirit join effortlessly with the power of my birth
There is a lot of power and courage that comes when women give birth, it is inbuilt. As the saying goes when the child is born so is the mother. They do not ask for it, it just happens. Wisdom and compassion over power them, their birth could be a source of healing or trauma for a woman. Its undeniable that women are at their most powerful yet vulnerable during childbirth. However only women that can give birth freely will know and understand that power that is within.
